Soon-woo Kwon of South Korea proved to be the shock winner of the 2021 edition of Astana Open, winning his maiden title on the ATP circuit. It was also the first time a South Korean player had won an ATP event since 2003.

Kwon defeated James Duckworth in the final, winning 7-6 (6), 6-3 to lift the title. This was after he had overcome the second seeded Alexander Bublik in the previous round.

Top seeded Aslan Karatsev fell in the second round to Emil Ruusuvuori after getting an opening round bye.
